First, the Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner
PROS It went on so smoothly and stayed on longer than my usual eyeliner. I'm lazy and not exactly known for removing my eye makeup at night or in the shower. I'll wash my face, but not rub my eyes, and whatever stays is my eyeliner going forward. Like I said, lazy. Anyway, the Rimmel pencil made it 3 days as opposed to the usual 2 my regular pencil is able to tolerate.
CONS I did one eye with each pencil and throughout the day I typically wet a fingertip and run it along the bottom of my eye to erase stray smudges. It was obviously a lot harder to fix the waterproof Rimmel pencil, but not impossible. I didn't notice it smudging less than my normal pencil, so having difficulty fixing it was less than ideal.
Left side of the picture is my regular eyeliner, Right side is Rimmel Scandaleyes You can see my regular eyeliner didn't go on as smoothly as the Rimmel did. |
Now, as I said, I don't usually wash my makeup off. I don't like the oily residue and I feel like it always gets in my eyes. I'd much rather wait for it to come off on it's own, but since I was asked to review it, I tackled the removal process.
Rimmel Gentle Eye Makeup Remover
The bottle looks different now
(It features the infamous Frozen line "Let it go" on the front)
but I can't see any claims that they have changed the formula.
PROS It wasn't oily, which was great, because it didn't make my eyes burn.
CONS It didn't really work. It says it removes waterproof eye makeup but it had a hard time getting the eyeliner off. It took care of my regular non-waterproof eyeliner okay, but the Rimmel Scandaleyes was stubborn. I eventually resorted to breaking out my old oily Mary Kay eye makeup remover and it was gone in a flash. See the stages of removal below:
First off: the start. Neither was a real disaster by the end of the day
I went to work with the Rimmel Gentle Eye Makeup Remover and cotton balls, humming Disney songs as I went.
As you can see, it got a lot of my regular eyeliner off, but only succeeded in really smearing around the Rimmel Scandaleyes. Unimpressive.
But I usually have to take a q-tip along the edges, so I didn't give up quite yet.
The q-tip managed to get almost all the rest of my regular eyeliner off, but the Rimmel Scandaleyes was holding on tight, a testament to it's waterproof-ness but a nail in the coffin of the Gentle Eye Makeup Remover. My poor eyelids were sore from being scrubbed with cotton balls and q-tips, so I gave up and broke out the old oily Mary Kay eye makeup remover I have literally had since I was in junior high. That's how often I use it, I've have it for almost 2 decades.
Ah cleanliness! Old reliable comes through again! I didn't realize how much was actually left behind by the Gentle Eyes! I guess nothing works quite like oil.
