Lush Beauty Bars

I have many times walked by the Lush display at the Macy's in my local mall.  I stopped once to ogle the adorable little works of art that are their bath bombs, but I ran away, overwhelmed by the choices and prices.

Seriously, look at how enticing they are!

Over the years I've learned the importance of buying quality products, especially ones that are going to be absorbed by your body, and I've wanted to try the all-natural solid shampoo bars for a few years now.  I thought my upcoming trip was the perfect excuse to test them: I want to take as few liquids as possible (stupid 3-1-1 rules) but I also need to test drive all hair products so I don't wind up in the middle of Romania with antagonistic hair.
I went for a shampoo bar and came out with...
In two days I have visited the Lush counter twice, that's how much I have fallen in love with their products.

Why?

The employees are helpful, knowledgeable, love the products, and are more than willing to treat you to free stuff.  I got rubbed down with I don't know how many lotions and powders, plus I got a free facial the second day which was wonderful.  The girl who gave me my facial sent me home with a tiny sample of body wash to try as well!

Before I get started with an objective review of the soaps, I need to just gush for five seconds: OMG these are amazing!  I love them!  They are delicious and wonderful and I'm not sure I will ever go back to regular stuff!!!!

Ahem.

First up: the Godiva shampoo bar
  • Vegan
  • Smells absolutely wonderful
  • Softest, most creamy lather I have ever experienced (and I am a shampoo whore: at this very moment I have Dove, Organix, Pantene, and Big Curly Hair in my shower, plus the Lush bars)
  • Has pieces of conditioner in it which allows you to skip conditioner.  I tried this and my hair felt super light and airy but with curly hair that also meant a little too much body.  It did manage not to go into full-blown frizz-mode though, which was surprising.
I also picked up the Trichomania shampoo bar

  • Also Vegan
  • Also smells delicious
  • Leaves hair literally squeaky clean.  I could hear my hair squeaking against the skin on my hands as I rinsed it out
  • I picked this up thinking it was a conditioner, to go with my Godiva shampoo, but it's not.  It is a conditioning shampoo like the Godiva, but again left my hair a little too light.  It did produce some pretty nicely wound curls though.

The Therapy massage bar

  • Vegan again
  • It's not advertised as a citrus bar, but I swear there is a very mild citrus-y scent to it.  I'm not usually a citrus kind of girl, but I like this
  • With gentle pressure it applies easily and evenly, especially if you are extra warm from a hot shower
  • Does not leave a greasy residue.  At first it seems like it's going to, but give it just a second to sink it and you are left with simply soft skin.  No grease.
  • Because it's a bar you don't have to worry about having left over lotion that you have try to get back in the bottle, or try to pawn off on someone else
  • Can be used on the face or back
  • Can be used for breakouts or on a regular basis
  • Felt great: tingly but not overly so, and it didn't dry my face out, which is a big plus!
  • Looks like it's going to smell like mud or something gross, but it doesn't: it's minty and makes you want some mint chocolate chip ice cream, stat!
  • Unlike most of Lush's masks, this one does not need to be refrigerated and it is good for three months
  • This product contains honey and is therefore not vegan

  • Vegan
  • The woman at the counter pointed out that it is great to sprinkle on after working out, traveling, or whenever you are sweaty and gross but can't get to a shower right away.
  • It's also wonderful smelling, especially when paired with Lust perfume.
  • Makes your skin super soft, especially if you sprinkle on after lotion

  • Vegan
  • Kept my hair from being worthy of Hermione Granger
  • It has a stronger smell than the other products.  It's not as light and sweet or fruity.
  • People have reported that it melts super easily, so I am being especially careful with it but it's too soon to tell

  • Good for multiple baths because when you smash it open you find two another bath bomb inside, shaped like a chick!
  • The water turns a fantastic bright pink color (unless you are in poor lighting, in which case it looks a little like you are re-enacting the first of the ten plagues).
  • Not only does this deliciously potent bath bomb provide a calming aromatherapy during your bath: I still smelled like it when I woke up from my nap hours later!
  • I did not realize that the bath bombs do not produce bubbles so I was disappointed by that.
So many great products and I'm lucky enough to have a Lush store near me, but they are available online for those not as lucky as I am.
