I'll have more posts coming up for the makeup I've been trying, but today is about something else; something you have to get right or your makeup is going to be all wrong. I'm talking about skin care.
First of all, my current products:
Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover. Do not be fooled by the name, this is some oily stuff. My first memories of this makeup remover involve my mom holding me down as she tried to clean off the leftover mascara from my dance recital. I hated the squishy feeling of it, but I have come to learn that that squishiness is magical. I've tried a lot of other makeup removers (because I HATE makeup remover!!) and this is by far the best. Swipe-swipe with a cotton ball and voila. Done. Waterproof makeup is no match for Mary Kay!

My bottle is this old school version. |
Mary Kay TimeWise 3-in-1 Cleanser, Combination/Oily Skin. So, full disclosure, my mom used to sell Mary Kay growing up and I am known to be easily overwhelmed when presented with multiple choices. That is honestly the only reason I use this cleanser.
It's nothing special really, but at least it doesn't make me break out |
Lush Cosmetic Lad Moisturizer. I have fallen in love with this multi-purpose moisturizer. Until I started using it I was the girl who only moisturized on occasion and used whatever was around. I never bought the same product twice in a row. I am now on my third pot of Cosmetic Lad. It has a very mild smell that reminds me of orange creamsicles, and it has amazing healing properties. I not only use it on my face, but also anywhere eczema pops up. Last summer I developed an allergy to the gloves we use at work and I got a nasty crusty patch on my hand that would. not. go. away. Until I used Cosmetic Lad on it, that is. Now anytime I notice a spot on my body getting irritated, I slather it in Cosmetic Lad. I'm not the only one: I've seen reviews where people even advocate putting it on scrapes and cuts.

It does a body good. |
That brings us to today and me in Target with a face full of makeup. I hate washing my face. I hate the splashing and how my shirt inevitably gets wet around the collar and water drips up my sleeves. Eww. So I went off to Target to find makeup removing cloths.
I had previously purchased some Yes to Grapefruit Brightening Facial Towelettes because they were on sale, but they weren't designed to remove makeup. Also, once I got them home I actually read the packaging and discovered they were only meant to be used once or twice a week as a face-brightener and detoxer of sorts, not as a daily cleansing wipe. I have liked them so far: the scent is pleasant and seems natural, but it is a little drying. (Nothing Cosmetic Lad can't handle though)
Sorry, you're just not what I need right now. |
4.99 for the wipes, or 7.49 for all three. Tough decision. |
There is no scent, which is what I would expect from a sensitive formula. The cleanser is a gel that creates a nice lather, no complaints but nothing spectacular. The lotion claims to be a "rich moisturizer" but is actually very light, much lighter than Cosmetic Lad. I think the lotion will be passed on to someone else but the face wash could easily replace my Mary Kay cleanser. The Mary Kay one has exfoliating beads but now that I have the brightening Yes to Grapefruit wipes, which also exfoliate, I think I can forego the beads.
The facial wipes, the product I was actually after, are a keeper for sure. They are just what they advertise to be: harsh on makeup, gentle on skin. The cloth itself feels a little rough to me, but I'll just use a softer touch. It's worth it to be able to remove my makeup so easily without a bunch of crazy chemicals or splashing water everywhere!
